I've been thinking about this for a few days and it's turning into an urge. I have previously shaved off hair at the nape of my neck. I just hate my hair so much. It's long right now, and it's just always in the way. I usually keep it up hit it's just uncomfortable.
I know it isn't socially acceptable to shave your head but I would either wear some kind of head covering or maybe wigs outside. I have had it cut really short like a mens style before and I loved it. Only I felt stupid in front of people and wore a hat a lot.
I don't know what to do. I feel like I'm going to end up just doing it out of sheer frustration and then regretting it

Just get it cut into a style you like and can manage, why shave it all off?

I absolutely hate hair all over the place so I would say shave it all off! I love the look on women it's very bold. Go for it I say.

My dd does this regularly, she shaves it all down to a 1 and looks amazing, then takes a phase of growing it, gets annoyed by it, and shaves it all again.
Don't give a fuck what other people think, as long as you're happy and comfortable, they don't matter.

I think there is a name for this urge - i can remember reading about it during Covid when apparently quite a few people did this. Tricho something I think.
I think its related to wanting a new start or similar.
its hair, itll grow back but just give it a bit longer to make sure id say!

Yes my hairdresser has her hair shaved and bleached blond. She's fifty something and looks fabulous.

I know I've been thinking this, why should I have to have long annoying hair because of other people deciding I need to just because I'm a woman

I shaved my head once because the hair was unsalvageable.
It was very much the wrong time to discover that the back of my head is as flat as a plate!
I wore wigs for a few months after that 😁

You should do it as a positive decision because you like that look, not as a negative "I hate my hair" decision.

Aargh this app is so annoying. Can't change the settings. I'm going to delete this account and make it again so I can see notifications. Thank you for advice, I was surprised at the positivity

I was going to say something along these lines too. Check your head shape first OP.
How about a compromise? Pixie cut or something. I wear mine short too. It's just more expensive to maintain, with max 6 weeks between cuts if I want it to look reasonable.
I have also been tempted to get a buzz cut occasionally.

Every once in a while, I did get the urge to shave all my hair off mostly because it's so thick and a huge pain in the arse to do. But then I got cancer, had to have chemo and a few weeks into the first cycle, it started to fall out (as expected). I went to get a buzz cut in anticipation for the rest to disappear. Thankfully, it turns out I had a lovely shaped head under all the hair.
Am now regrowing it. It's about 10 months since I finished chemo and although it's regrown a few inches, it's taking so much longer than anticipated. It looks terrible most of the time and I worry it might not regrow to the same length before. Yes, I could get it trimmed and styled but I just want to power through and regrow it ASAP.
While I appreciate my circumstances are very different to yours, there's no way I would voluntarily shave my head ever again. (In fact, should I have to have further chemo, we cold cap).

Why do you think women have to have long hair? I chopped all mine off age 17 and it's been short ever since.
OP go and get a good pixie cut - by a professional! you'll love it.

I agree re a pixie cut. I've had short hair since I was about 30, something like this but there are loads of versions.

I made the new account. But it honk it is just my phone is crap :( Good suggestions to settle for a pixie cut. I had that before when I was young and really liked it. I'm just fighting his urge to grab the scissors in my kitchen and start hacking at it. I have bipolar disorder so I'm aware this could be a mood thing and I'm telling myself not to do anything rash

Why is it socially unacceptable to shave your head? I did it whilst at uni 30 years ago and loved it. I've now got a pixie cut but sometimes get the shave urge!

I did this once and it was cool for about five minutes, then took about 3 years of weird hairstyles to get back to a sensible shape.

Don't ( in your words ) hack at it with a pair of scissors . It will look terrible . Either go to the hairdressers and have a pixie ( I think you look great ) or get someone to give you a buzz cut with a shaver .
You say you are aware it could be your bipolar urging you to do it ?
Have you got a mh supporter / health professional you could contact and tell them you are having these thoughts and think it could be some kind of compulsion / episode coming on ?

@SmallCatMama definitely worth trying a pixie cut👌
I agree the app is rubbish, I use the desktop site on my phone as it has more functionality.

I've had to take a break after I had some psychotic episodes when I was completely off medication. I was literally terrified of using technology, thought people were spying on me etc. So I was really unwell. I'm hoping to work again in the near future now I'm more stable. My kids are older. So I could probably get away with having a bad hairdo for a while, not like I really see anyone anyway
